Greg Abernathy, LMSW

Greg Abernathy is a licensed social worker who holds a Master of Social Work (LMSW), obtained at New Mexico Highlands University, and has a bachelor’s degree in Experimental Psychology—with a minor in Biological Anthropology—from the University of New Mexico. Greg has committed the last few years in learning about the endocannabinoid system’s involvement in trauma, post-traumatic stress, and how supplementing with medicinal cannabis for mental health concerns and substance abuse can be done in a safe and practical way. This perspective includes managing expectations with medicinal cannabis and providing psychoeducation for people in finding and incorporating medical cannabis in their recovery; and the management of symptoms in a variety of mental health concerns.

Greg uses a Trauma-Informed approach with people and a non-judgmental perspective focused on helping clients decern what they need for their individual treatment in a collaborative environment. Greg is a strengths-based therapist who enjoys helping people learn more about themselves, discover what they want in life, and developing collaborative plans with people to meet those needs and desires.

Greg has experience working with families, adolescents, and adults who are involved in multiple systems and can help provide guidance in navigating the vicissitudes of the criminal justice system, and Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD). Greg also has an interest in developing trainings for clients and mental health professionals in learning new evidence-based perspectives and methodologies to incorporate into best practices for healthy-minds and enhanced well-being.
